And Jesus answered and spoke to them again by parables and said; «The kingdom of heaven is like a certain king, who arranged a marriage for his son. And He sent out his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding, and they refused to come.
Again, he sent out other servants saying; «Tell those who are invited; «Behold, my dinner I have prepared, my cattle and fatted calves have been killed, and everything is ready; Come to the wedding feast». But those invited made light of it and went off, one to his own farm, another to his merchandise; and the rest they seized his servants treated them shamefully, and killed them.
And hearing about it that king was furious, and senting out his armies he destroyed those murderers and their city he burned up. Then he said to his servants; «The wedding is ready, but those invited were not worthy; Go therefore to the crossroads of the highways, and as many as you find invite to the wedding feast».
And exiting those servants into the highways they gathered together all whom they found, both bad and good; and the wedding hall was filled with guests. But when the king came in to see the guests he saw a man there who was not wearing a wedding garment, so he said to him; «Friend, how did you come in here not wearing a wedding garment?» And he was speechless.
Then the king said to the servants; «Bind him hand and foot take him away and cast him into outer darkness; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth». For many are called, but few are chosen».
Then the Pharisees went off and took counsel on how they might ensnare Him in His talk. And they sent to Him their own disciples along with the Herodians saying; «Teacher, we know that You are true and that the way of God in truth You teach, and You are not swayed by anyone; for you pay no attention to who men they are; tell us, therefore, what do You think? Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar or not?»
But Jesus perceived their wickedness and said; «Why do you test Me, you hypocrites? Show Me the tax money». So they brought Him a denarius. And He said to them; «Whose image is this and whose inscription?» They said to Him; «Caesar's». Then He said to them; «Give therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar's and to God the things that are God's». And when they heard this they marveled, and leaving Him they went away.
On that same day came to him Sadducees those who say that there is no resurrection, and they asked him a question saying; «Teacher, Moses said, «If a man dies without having children, then shall marry his brother the wife of his and raise up offspring for his dead brother».
Now there were with us seven brothers; and the first after he had married he died, and having no offspring he left his wife to his brother; likewise the second also and the third, even to the seventh. Last of all the woman died also. In the resurrection therefore whose of the seven will she be wife? For they all had her as wife?»
And Jesus answered and said to them; «You are mistaken not knowing the Scriptures nor the power of God. For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but like angels of God in heaven, they are.
But concerning the resurrection of the dead have you not read what was spoken to you by God saying, «I am the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob?» God is not the God of the dead, but of the living».
And when the crowds heard it they were astonished at his teaching.
And the Pharisees when they heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together, and then asked Him a question one of them, a lawyer, in order to test Him and he said; «Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the law?»
And Jesus said to him; «You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind». This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it; «You shall love your neighbor as yourself». On these two commandments all the Law and the Prophets hang».
Now while the Pharisees were assembled Jesus asked them a question saying; «What do you think of the Messiah? Whose son is he?» They answered; «Of David».
He said to them; «How then does David in the Spirit call Him «Lord» saying, «The Lord said to my Lord, sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet»? If then David calls him «Lord», how is he his son?»
And no one was able to answer him a word, and no one dared from that day on to ask him any more questions.
