At that time Herod heard, the tetrarch, the report about Jesus and he said to his servants; «This is John the Baptist; he is risen from the dead, and therefore these powers are at work in him». 

For Herod had laid hold of John and bound him and put him in prison for the sake of Herodias the wife of Philip his brother. Because John had said to him; «It is not lawfulfor you to have her». And although he wanted to put him to death he feared the crowds, because as a prophet they considered him. 

But when birthday came of Herod the daughter danced, of Herodias, among them and pleased Herod; therefore with an oath he promised to give her whatever she might ask. 

So she, having been prompted by her mother, said, «Give me, here on a platter the head of John the Baptist». 

And the king was sorry, but for the sake of his oaths and because of those who sat with him he commanded it to be given to her, so he sent and had John beheaded in prison. And it was brought his head on a platter and given to the girl, and she brought it to her mother. 

Then they came, his disciples, and took the body away and buried it, and they went and told Jesus. 

When Jesus heard this he withdrew from there in a boat and went to a deserted place by Himself; And when the crowds heard about this they followed him on foot from the cities. And when Jesus went out He saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion on them and healed the sick among them. 

And when evening came they came to Him his disciples and said; «This is a deserted place and the hour is already late; send the crowds away, so that they may go into the villages and buy food for themselves». 

But Jesus said to them; «They do not need to go away; You give them something to eat». And they said to Him; «We don't have here but only five loaves and two fish». 

And He said; «Bring them here to Me». And having instructed the crowds to sit down on the grass, he took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven he blessed, and broke and gave to the disciples the loaves, and the disciples to the multitudes. 

So they all ate and were filled, and gathered up the remaining of the fragments twelve baskets full. And those who ate were about five thousand men besides women and children. 

And immediately Jesus made His disciples get into the boat and go before Him to the other side, while He sent away the crowds. And after he had sent away the crowds he went up into the mountain by himself in order to pray. When evening came he was there alone. 

But the boat was now in the middle of the sea, tossed by the waves; because the wind was against it. Now in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went to them walking on the sea. 

And when they saw Him, the disciples, on the sea walking they were troubled, saying that «It is a ghost!», and for fear they cried out. But immediately Jesus spoke to them saying; «Take heart, it is I; do not be afraid». 

And answering to Him Peter said; «Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water». So He said, «Come». And coming down from the boat Peter walked on the water to go to Jesus. 

But when he saw that the wind was strong he became afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, saying; «Lord, save me!» And immediately Jesus stretching out His hand He took hold of him and said to him; «O you of little faith! why did you doubt?» 

And when they got into the boat the wind ceased; then those who were in the boat came forward and worshiped Him saying; «Truly You are the Son of God». 

And when they had crossed over they came to the land ofa Gennesaret. And when they recognized Him the men of that place they sent out into all that surrounding region, and brought to Him all who were sick, and begged Him that they might only touch the hem of His garment; and as many as touched it were made perfectly well.
